PURPOSE:To produce molten pig iron with good thermal efficiency without using any rotary kiln by adding carbonaceous reducing agents and desulfurizers to pellets of residual oils formed from powder iron ore and residual oils and subjecting the mixture to drying, carbonizing and reducing then to melting. CONSTITUTION:Powder iron ore O and residual oils R are mixed by a pelletizer 1, whereby residual oil pellets PR are formed. If necessary, the pellets PR are carbonized in a moving grate furnace 2 for drying and carbonizing and are charged together with carbonaceous reducing agents C and desulfurizers Fl consisting of limestone or dolomite, etc. into a shaft and melting furnace 4 by means of a mixer 3. The materials that are not dried and carbonized in the furnace 2 are dried and carbonized in the uppermost part of the furnace 4. The mixture charged in the furnace 4 is reduced by a reducing gas G in the shaft furnace 4A, and are melted by an induction coil 6 in the melting furnace 4B, whereby the mixture is separated to molten iron PI and slag Sl. Part of the light oil produced by cracking from the pellets PR in the furnace 4A is modified with a heating and modifying furnace 7 and is used as the gas G. |
