PURPOSE:To enable the preparation of optical fiber for preserving polarized light having high retentions for polarized light, by depositing finely divided glass for core and finely divided glass for clad on the tip of a quartz glass rod, grinding the side of the rod, heating and degassing it, followed by drawing it. CONSTITUTION:The finely divided glass 12 for core having a composition of 90wt% SiO2 and 10wt% GeO is deposited on the tip of the starting quartz glass rod 11. Finely divided glass for clad having a composition of 80wt% SiO2 and 20wt% P2O5 is further applied to the deposited tip by the oxyhydrogen flame 15 to form the aggregate 13 of finely divided glass. The side of the aggregate 13 of glass is ground by the grinding blade 17, the aggregate is degassed by heating and drawn by heating by the furnance 18 to give the optical fiber 19 having a small diameter without passing it through a state of a transparent glass rod. Capable of preparing easily optical fiber useful for optical communication, optical sensor, etc. having improved storage stability of polarized light. |
