PURPOSE:To speed up flame propagation velocity of mixture to impove combustion performance by providing a partition cylinder within a cavity of a combustion chamber to form a primary combustion chamber in the partition cylinder and an air reservoir between the exterior of the partition cylinder and the peripheral surface of the cavity respectively and communicating the chamber to the reservoir through a high speed eddy current chamber. CONSTITUTION:A partition cylinder 6 is secured fixedly in a space 5 near the upper end of a cavity 4 formed on an end face 3 of a direct injection system combustion chamber 2 of an engine 1, and in the inner peripheral surface 6a of said cylinder 6 is arranged a jet 8 of a fuel injection nozzle 7 in the direction of blasted fuel. And the partition cylinder 6 is formed approximately quadrilaterally as viewed in a plan with the apexes 6b inscribing the peripheral surface 9 of the cavity and the sides between the apexes having a convex surfaces 6c respectively. Also, the interior of the partition cylinder 6 is made a primary combustion chamber 10 and a air reservoir 11 is formed between the concave surfaces 9 of the cavity to be opened vertically while the partition cylinder 6 is formed in the lower partion with a high speed eddy current chamber 12 to communicate to the respective chambers 10, 11. Thus, combustion flame is propagated to the air reservoir 11 through said chamber 12. |
