PURPOSE:To obtain a cation exchange membrane having a metallic layer bound extremely firmly and uniformly on the membrane surface by press sticking a metal beforehand onto the cation exchange membrane and embedding the same then applying chemical plating on said membrane surface. CONSTITUTION:A metal is press stuck to a membrane of a perfluorocarbon polymer having groups that can be cation exchange groups and/or anion exchange groups. In order to disperse the metal uniformly in the membrane surface, the metal is preferably in a particulate state and after the particles are dispersed by a sieve or the like on the membrane surface, the particles are press stuck by a hot press or the like whereby the particles are embedded in the membrane. In case the polymer contains the groups that can be cation exchange groups, said groups are converted to cation exchange by a chemical treatment. Thereafter, chemical plating is further applied on the membrane surface, whereby the intended cation exchange membrane is obtained. |
