A disposable diaper or like product comprising, in order, a top sheet of hydrophobic non-woven fibers which overlies an absorbent pad about which is wrapped a thin tissue wadding of non-woven hydrophobic fibers. The disposable diaper is provided with a water-impervious backing sheet. The hydrophobic wadding provides considerable strength which does not deteriorate when fluid is absorbed by the absorbent pad and serves to prevent fluid wetback.
