SOLID-STATE COLOR IMAGE PICKUP DEVICE HAVING DOUBLE LAYERED, THREE TIERED STRUCTURE

PURPOSE:To obtain the solid-state color image pickup device, which does not require a multicolor filter and generates a distinctive image, and whose manufacturing costs are inexpensive, by providing the structure wherein a plurality of light sensitive layers are laminated on a solid substrate. CONSTITUTION:Light sensitive layers 3 and 4 are laminated on a substrate 2. The layer 3 includes light sensitive elements 26 and 27, and the layer 4 includes light sensitive elements 28 and 29. Each of the elements 26-29 is connected to one MOS element on the substrate 2. Photodiodes 5 and 5' are associated with the MOS elements on the substrate 2. The upper layer 4 detects and absorbs blue light, the second layer 3 detects and absorbs at least green light, and the photodiodes 5 and 5' detect at least red light. By manufacturing the layers 3 and 4 so as to detect and absorb the light, the layers 3 and 4 can operate as a sensor as well as a filter. Therefore, the multicolor filter, which must be arranged in a compound pattern, with capability for detecting different colored lights being maintained, is not required any more.
