PURPOSE:To analyze total mercury quickly and simply with higher sensitivity than usual, by decomposing the total mercury by using sodium tetrahydro borate together with Fe(III) and introducing into a quartz cell after vaporizing it and then, measuring the absorbance by an atomic absorptiometer. CONSTITUTION:A sample solution containing mercury is put in a reaction vessel 1 and a prescribed quantity of 1W/V% aqueous solution of sodium tetrahydro borate and that of 1,000mg/l aqueous solution of Fe(III) compound, are added to the vessel 1 while maintaining at 7-8pH. Further, said aqueous solution is stirred for >=5min by a magnetic stirrer 5 and the mercury is vaporized and then, is sent to a quartz cell 7 by a diaphragm pump 2 through a pipe packed with an absorbent cotton 7 and a silica gel 5, and a flowmeter 6. 253.6nm absorbance is measured by the cell 7 and the total mercury is measured. There is no necessity for carrying out pretreatment of an analysis sample and the total quantity of mercury is measured up to 0.1ppb with high sensitivity in about ten minutes only by taking the analysis sample in the vessel 1 directly and adding the reagent. |
