The automatic charge feed is for a sealed vessel containing liquid, the charge (9) being dropped onto a panel (6) sealing the vessel (3) and situated between the level of the liquid inside and an opening (5) in the top. A sealing joint (8) around the panel periphery is of lower specific gravity than the liquid, and the panel is opened by the charge, shutting again automatically under the effect of the displacement thrust exerted on the joint. The level of the liquid can be near or only slightly below the top of the vessel. The joint can be of flexible material containing closed gas-filled chambers, while the panel can hinge on one of the vessel walls.
