The glass bottle for recycling (159) is placed on a support (152) by a feed (138). It can then be directed towards a bowl or trough (122), which is held in an armed position. The support is then freed to allow the article to drop. The support is locked or unlocked by a scissors-type device which has hooked ends and a finger which extends the support to the scissor ends. Action is manual, from a cam (148) which abuts against the sup port. The feed includes a ramp (142) to guide the article to the support (152). The ramp is pivoted between locked and free positions.
