<p>Skis with a hollow body filled with cellular (polyurethane or acrylic) resin moulded or injected in situ also incorporate reinforcing elements of tubular section which are plugged or pinched at each end to exclude the cellular foam. Used to provide an enhanced stiffness/wt. ratio, esp. for ski bodies which are relatively deep in the centre and shallow towards each end. The tubular inserts may be of rigid or semi-rigid thermoplastic, thermosetting or elastomeric materials, esp. an alloy (blend) of BBS and polycarbonate or of a fibre-reinforced resin, incorporating glass or carbon fibres. Opt. twin parallel tubes are included. The max. dia. of the tube may be equal to or less than the thickness of the adjacent ski core cavity, may be overlapped by a strip metal profile also within the cellular core.</p> |
