<p>The drill sows garlic, having a share opening a furrow and mounted on a chassis with a tractor hitch. The seeds are extracted from a hopper by a wheel with hollow spokes connected to a vacuum chamber, and are delivered into the furrow where they are covered by a burying disc. Each spoke sucks in a seed as it passes through the hopper, and when the vacuum is released, the seed drops into the furrow by gravity. Air is blown into each spoke after the seed has dropped to remove any dirt, avoid the seed being moved out of the furrow, and prevent any other seeds sticking in the spoke when it passes through the hopper again.</p> |
