PURPOSE:To attain automatic character segmenting, by segmenting character string at first and then segmenting at characters at each character string. CONSTITUTION:A picture signal for a sheet of paper inputted from an input terminal 1 is once stored in a picture memory 2. This stored picture signal is read out according to a signal of a memory control circuit 3, the number of black picture elements is counted at a counter 4 and written in a y projection memory 6. The operations are done for all scanning lines by setting a write address by a memory control circuit 7 according to a control signal of a microprocessor 10. The value of the y projection is read in the microprocessor and if the value of the y projection is larger than a prescribed value, it is decided as a character section and if smaller, it is decided as a part between lines. |
