The chimney fire-extinguishing equipment comprises an inflatable cushion (1,101) of flexible fire-resistant material, inserted in the bottom end (200) of a chimney (201) in the uninflated state, and which is clamped in the chimney by inflation, so as to seal it off from any air current. At the underside (3) of the cushion is a union (6) for connection to a supply of non-inflammable gas under pressure (8). A nozzle (11,12,13) at the top (2) of the cushion discharges this gas inside the chimney from the cushion interior. A non-return valve (14) can be incorporated in the supply union, and a pressure-relief valve (16) in the nozzle, whose outlets can direct the gas onto the cushion top surface.
