<p>The energy converter has a central drive axle and support on which is mounted a drive pulley and a support frame. The pulley can be used to drive a dynamo or waterpump. There are four sets of main rotors of the vertical Flettner type mounted on arms at right angles to each other. Each Flettner rotor is linked via a pulley and a drive belt to the pulley on a smaller vertical Savonius rotor, which rotates on another axle. The smaller Savonius rotors rotate in one direction only, regardless of the wind direction. They ensure that the main rotors and hence the whole device always rotate in the same direction. They also act as governors to provide a smoother rotation. No bevel or other gears are needed, as all rotating parts are vertical.</p> |
