In a screw connection for cores of telecommunications signal and control lines, a family of contact elements, located in a connection base, are provided with a threaded hole for the threaded shank of a cap screw. The ends of the cores are in each case clamped firmly, such that they conduct current, between the shank-side ledge surface of the screw cap on the one hand and an opposing bearing of the contact element, surrounding the associated threaded hole, on the other hand. For a screw connection which is easy to handle and is nevertheless reliably effective as a contact, it is proposed that the opposing bearing be constructed on the contact element from two uneven zones, which are constructed to be different from one another, specifically, on the one hand, in the region which always remains free of cores, a supporting zone with stop points for the screw cap for limiting the lower terminal end position of its ledge surface and, on the other hand, in the region holding the core end which is enveloped in insulation, a penetration zone with prong tips, which are recessed with respect to the abovementioned stop points, for penetrating the insulation sleeve to the conductor of the core. In this case, provided between the prong tips are troughs which have sufficient space to hold the existing insulating material masses of the sleeve, which on the one hand are forced from the penetrating prong tips as far as the remaining lateral material bridges in the sleeve and, on the other hand, are suspended firmly, without becoming detached, between the penetration points by means of the sleeve sections which have been left undestroyed.
