In order to simplify and accelerate the operation of a pressure evaporating burner for liquid fuels with a main burner device, with an evaporator chamber and with a preheating chamber for heating the main burner device at the start of operation, it is proposed that the preheating chamber has, leading to the main burner device, a duct, in which there is arranged a pressure atomising nozzle which introduces the fuel into the duct in a diverging jet, and that there is provided in the duct a heat exchanger which is flowed through by the fuel flowing to the pressure atomising nozzle and which surrounds a pipe, which begins downstream of the pressure atomising nozzle in the direction of the jet and extends essentially parallel to the duct, and which is situated between the pipe and the duct outer wall in the space which, with cold fuel, is reached by the fuel droplets delivered by the pressure atomising nozzle.
