The lighting device is composed of a gas-discharge lamp and an oscillator. The output of the oscillator is connected to the gas-discharge lamp and supplies a high-frequency voltage for starting and operation of the gas-discharge lamp. Its oscillation frequency once the gas-discharge lamp has been started is determined by a resonant circuit. The oscillator is inductively coupled. According to the invention, the resonant circuit which determines the frequency is formed by the oscillating arrangement consisting of the gas-discharge lamp, which has been started, and the secondary winding of the transformer.
