In a device for melting and applying thermoplastic adhesive fed in a rod-shape, the inner space of the melting chamber (3) widens conically in the direction of the mouthpiece (11). A perforated insertion piece (8) made of heat-conducting material is inserted into the end, of the melting chamber (3), facing the mouthpiece (11) and has in its central region a section (9) which protrudes into the melting chamber (3).
