PURPOSE:To reduce inertial mass in the valve motion link system in such a way that a valve is opened and closed through a lifter made of a light metal by means of a cam. CONSTITUTION:A lifter 19 made of a light metal, such as aluminum is slid along a lifter guide 21 which is drilled on a part of a cylinder head. An outer pad fitting hole 29 is formed on the top of the lifter 19, and an outer pad 31 made of steel which is quenched and tempered is provided. A valve motion cam 33 presses down the lifter 19 through the outer pad 31, and the lifter 19 thrusts a valve stem 11 through an inner pad 23, so that the valve can be opened and closed. Thus, inertial mass is reduced, and the valve can be normally operated in the high speed turning range. |
