A system for analysing liquid samples in relation to at least one of their components comprises a multiplicity of sample containers for receiving the liquid samples, a sampling unit for transferring samples from the containers to an analytical device, for example a liquid analyser, and a device for consecutively moving the sampling unit from one sample container to another. Each sample container has a collection passage which has an inlet opening below the liquid level of the sample in the container and an outlet opening above the liquid level and surrounded by a contact surface, which contact surface may be funnel-shaped. The free end or the tip of the sampling unit has a matching contact surface which can be applied to the contact surface of each sample container so as to form a seal, as a result of which a sample can be removed from each sample container through the sampling unit without contact occurring between the sample and the outer surface regions of the sampling unit.
