PURPOSE:To facilitate the discrimination of a discontinuous part by using the discrepancy part between a registered seal impression and a seal impression to be collated as the boundary line to synthesize and display a part of the former and that of the latter. CONSTITUTION:A control part 16 causes a seal impression reading part 11 to read a seal impression on a paper 10 by an instruction from a keyboard 14 and stores it as a seal impression pattern 18 in the specific area 17 of an internal storage part 12. A registered seal impression pattern is read out from an external storage part 13 and is stored as a seal impression pattern 20 in the specific area 19 of the storage part 12. Patterns 18 and 20 are normalized and rotary angles are matched. Exclusive OR between both patterns is operated and is stored as the discrepancy pattern 23 in a specific area 22 having the same size as the area 19, and the density sum is obtained at every angle of thetaradian from the center of the discrepancy pattern, and the line of the angle where a maximum density sum is generated is used as the boundary line to synthesize a part of the registered seal impression and that of the seal impression to be collated, and a synthesized pattern 24 is enlarged and displayed on a display part 15 as a pattern 26.
