A turbine wheel is composed of blades (1) and of an outer hoop (2) and has no hub. It rotates in bearings (12 and 13) and peripheral stops (14 and 15) fixed to flanges (8) of the stator (7). The poles of the rotor (5) of the alternator are fixed to the outer hoop (2) of this wheel. The stator (7) of the alternator surrounds the rotor and is solid with the stationary outer casing (10). The bearings (12) and stops (14) operate with a pressurised inert gas; a minimal number of these bearings and stops (13 and 15) are of the roller type so as to provide for the position of the wheel at rest. The space (11) between the rotor and stator is filled by this inert gas, which also provides for leaktightness. A collector (17) ahead of a diffuser (18) trails the hydroelectric unit. The hydroelectric unit is carried by a barrage with reticulated structure, which barrage is formed of rigid vertical uprights, beams and tensioned horizontal cables protected against corrosion, - the whole covered by rigid plates, which allow the water to pass through the turbine only. <IMAGE>
