PURPOSE:To obtain a display which is excellent in resolving power, driving property, etc., by poviding a liquid layer, and a heating element for generating microscopic foams in this liquid layer, and displaying the differences in quantity of light, hue, lightness and chroma saturation between said layer and a liquid layer having no foam, by a light scattering effect of the foam. CONSTITUTION:For instance, a radiant ray absorbing layer 1 which is heated by absorbing a radiant ray (infrared beam 5) is formed by an inorganic or organic material which is scarcely melted. On the layer 1, water and an organic liquid such as alcohol, etc., or a mixed liquid layer 2 of the organic liquid and water is placed, and the liquid layer 2 is covered with a protecting layer 3 of transparent glass, plastic, etc. The liquid layer 2 is colored by melting or dispersing fine powder of dyestuff or pigment. Or it is made muddy in white. The infrared beam 5 is irradiated to the layer 1, the layer 1 corresponding to the beam becomes a high temperature, the liquid layer 2 corresponding to it generates a foam and becomes a microscopic picture element 4, and as for reflected rays of observation light 7, a difference is generated in quantity of light, hue and lightness, between the picture element (foam) 4 and the liquid layer 2 generating no foam, and the display is observed clearly by an observer 6. |
