PURPOSE:To display pictures having excellent drivability and reliability with respect to a device for displaying pictures of good quality with high image resolution by heating a liquid layer according to picture information and generating foam thereby developing the pictures. CONSTITUTION:When the corresponding points of an absorbing layer 1 are heated by irradiation of radiations 5 to a display element from the right of the figure, a thin liquid layer 2 in contact therewith is heated by heat conduction and the liquid temp. rises until finally the liquid boils and vapor foam 4 is formed in the layer 2. Here, desired intersecting parts can be heated by selecting line condeuctors and row conductors as desired and conducting electricity thereto. In other words, said parts can be heated according to picture information. Light transmittable glass or the like having pressure resistance is used for a light transmittable protecting film 3. In the case of irradiating the radiations 5, observing light 7 arrives at the observing eye 6 by providing a difference in the quantity of light according to the picture information between the case in which said liquid passes through the foam and the case in which said light does not pass through the foam. As a result, the pictures of good quality having excellent drivability and reliability are obtained. |
