The power unit block 1,3-6 of the reciprocating piston internal combustion engine is inserted oil-tight in an external sump (7). The flywheel housing (8) is connected to the external sump (7). In order to ensure simple take-off of the engine power by conventional means and to make possible the usual arrangement of auxiliary machines with adequate insulation of the structure-borne noise and with easy sealing of the oil chamber formed by the external sump and sufficiently flexible support for the engine torque, the power unit block (1,3-6) is inserted in the external sump by means of insulation elements (12, 12a, 13), which are coaxial with the crankshaft (6) and provided on its two front faces. These insulation elements (12, 12a, 13) serve as support elements. By means of these the power unit block is held centred in the external sump and axially fixed. At the same time, only one oil seal (14) is provided between the power unit block and the upper edge of the external sump (7). <IMAGE>
