Process for preparing novel N-(2-aminocycloheptyl)-N-alkanoyl anilides, or 2-N-oxides thereof

Novel N-(2-aminocycloheptyl)-N-alkanoyl anilides of the formula <IMAGE> in which the substituents are defined in Claim 1, are prepared. These compounds are obtained by reacting cycloheptene oxide in the presence of an acid with an appropriately substituted aniline and introducing the acid radical -CO-R into the resulting anilinocycloheptanol compound by reaction with a corresponding acid anhydride. The acylated compound is subsequently oxidised to give the anilinocycloheptan-2-one compound and this latter compound is then reacted with a secondary amine in the presence of a reducing agent. Finally, the cis and transisomers of the diamine which are obtained are separated by chromatography. The compounds which are obtained may be used as antidepressants.
