PURPOSE:To display excellent pictures with respect to a device for displaying pictures of good quality with high image resolution by inputting signals to the display element having a liquid layer and a radiation absorbing layer disposed in contact with the liquid layer by radiations corresponding to picture information. CONSTITUTION:When electric current pulses for heating are applied successively to the heating resistance wires Xl, Xm-Xp in the lateral directions in a display element, the thin liquid layer opposing to these wires is heated linearly but since the degree of heating is below the b.p., no vapor foam is generated. On the other hand, if video signals are applied to the heating resistance wires Yc, Yd, Ye in the vertical direction in synchronization with the electric current pulses for heating, only the intersecting parts of the line wires and the row wires are heated additionally, whereby the thin liquid layer is foamed. Thus, the signals corresponding to the picture information are inputted and the images are displayed with excellent drivability and reliability. |
