The short circuit indicator is constructed as a composite unit, comprising a current rail connectable to a feed circuit, and around which is a magnetic circuit containing an armature moving dependent upon the extent of a current passing through the rail. The armature is tensioned towards a rest position, in which it is arranged to remain during normal operating conditions for the installation. If a short circuit situation occurs, it moves from the rest position to an attracted position under the mechanical effect of an indicating release component. This component comprises an electrical current adjuster, mechanically activated from the armature with the aid of an electrically insulating activator between them.
