<p>In an overhead conductor in which an optical fibre 3 is loosely housed in the bore of a circumferentially rigid central metal core 1, the optical fibre is secured to the central core at each of a plurality of longitudinally spaced positions along the length of the conductor by a local deposit 4 of resin. The part of the optical fibre 3 extending between any two local deposits 4 of resin is loosely housed in, and of a length substantially greater than that of, that part of the bore. Risk that the excess length of the optical fibre 3 will accumulate at the lowest point of the bore of a suspended conductor is thereby reduced.</p> |
