PURPOSE:To efficiently produce an irregular shaped ber having good dimensional accuracy and plate shape by disposing a flat roll and grooved roll having a groove of a prescribed shape to face each other, rotating the rolls in the same direction and acting forward tension to a base metal, thereby rolling the metal. CONSTITUTION:The flat roll 2 and the grooved roll 1 having the groove to form a clearance to the shape of the irregular shaped bar are disposed to face each other and the rotating direction of the two rolls 1, 2 is maintained in the same direction. The grooved roll 1 is driven to rotate in the rolling direction and the flat roll 2 is driven to rotate in the direction opposite therefrom in this stage. The forward tension is acted in this state on the base metallic bar 3 and the bar is rolled. The forward tension to be acted on the base metallic bar 3 is adequately about 30-90% of the breaking strength of the bar 3. As a result, the flat roll 2 acts ironing deformation on the bar 3 so that the bar flows to the grooved roll 1 side. The groove is thus easily formed. The irregular shaped bar is obtd. as the rolling is stably executed by the effect of the forward tension.
