PURPOSE:To realize a high recognition rate with a small storing capacity in a device which is basically used for recognizing line segment codes, by installing a discrimination control code storing device and setting various discrimination control codes. CONSTITUTION:A line segment discrimination device 1, into which on-line handwritten characters are inputted, analyzes each line segment written by one stroke constituting of a hardwritten character, determines that a line segment belongs to which basic line segment selected in advance, and outputs a line segment code corresponding to the analyzed line segment. A character judging device 2, in response to the number of line segments inputted from the device 1, investigates line segment codes stored in a line segment storing device 5-1 at the leading head of data blocks of the corresponding number of strokes in accordance with the stored content of a discrimination control code memory 6-1, and compares the line segment code with the line segment code of the inputted character. When a disagreement is found in the course of the comparing operation, the device 2 investigates the content of the next line segment code storing device 5-2. Thus the device 2 investigates stored line segment code one after another until a complete agreement is found. When a complete agree is found, the device 2 outputs the corresponding character code. |
