Cyclopropanecarboxylates I(R = C1-4 alkyl, pyrethroidal alc. moiety; R1 = alkoxy, alkylthio optionally halo-substituted; R2 = H, alkoxy; R1R2 = halo (un)substituted alkylenedioxy; R3 = H, Cl) and their intermediates were prepd. I(R = pyrethroidal alc. moiety) are useful as insecticides (no data). Thus, condensing 4-MeOC6H4COMe with Me2CHCHO in KOH in H2O-MeOH gave 4-MeOC6H4COCH2CH:CMe2 and 4-MeOC6H4COCH:CHCHMe2, which were treated with PCl5 to give cis- and trans-4-MeOC6H4CCl:CHCH:CMe2. Thease were cyclized with N2CHCO2Et to give styrylcyclopropanecarboxylate II.
