PURPOSE:To make a high-density recording possible, by arranging a magnetic head on one side of a magnetic recording medium so that the line connecting a main magnetic pole and an auxiliary magnetic pole is orthogonal to the direction of movement of the magnetic recording medium and allowing a high magnetic permeability material to face the other side. CONSTITUTION:A magnetic head 4 provided with a main magnetic pole 4A and an auxiliary magnetic pole 4B is arranged approximately orthogonally to the direction of movement of an arrow of a magnetic recording medium 1. The main magnetic pole 4A is arranged in the range of a width W of the medium 1. A width (a) with which the main magnetic pole 4A and the medium 1 face to each other is made larger than a width (b) with which the auxiliary magnetic pole 4B and the medium 1 face to each other. A length (a') between the main magnetic pole 4A and the medium 1 is made longer than a length (b') between the auxiliary magnetic pole 4B and the medium 1. A high magnetic permeability material 3 is arranged in the opposite side of the medium 1 to face the magnetic head 4. It is desirable that a thickness (c) of the main magnetic pole 4A is small. Thus, the horiozontal magnetic field distribution is hardly generated in upper and lower stream directions of the medium 1, and a high-density recording is possible. |
