PURPOSE:To enable to start an engine in a minimum time period and to reduce consumption of a battery, by judging whether the engine temperature is higher than a prescribed value or not at the initial stage of engine starting operation, and effecting inertial starting through control of current supply to an electromagnetic clutch. CONSTITUTION:A flywheel 32 is fixed to the output shaft 31 of an engine by means of bolts 33. At the time of starting the engine, a ring gear 37 fixed to an inertial mass member 34 comes into mesh with a pinion 38 of a starter motor. Further, when a clutch disk 41 comes into contact with a clutch facing member 39 by means of an electromagnetic coil 43, the inertial mass member 34 is turned together with the output shaft 31 of the engine. In case that the engine temperature is lower than a prescribed value, the engine is started by way of inertial starting by turning only the inertial mass member 34 through operation of the starter motor, and connecting the member 34 to the engine output shaft 31 after the engine speed is raised to a prescribed level. Thus, since the engine can be started in a minimum time while, it is enabled to reduce consumption of a battery. |
