PURPOSE:To discriminate surely a recording time mode, by changing the spatial arrangement of pilot signals in accordance with the tape speed for recording and recording pilot signals. CONSTITUTION:In respect to recording tracks where information is recorded in a recording time mode I, a pilot signal is superposed and recorded on each track successively in order of frequencies f1, f2, f3, and f4. In respect to recording tracks where information is recorded in in a recording time mode II, the pilot signal is recorded in order of frequencies f1, f3, f4, and f2. Frequencies of the pilot signal reproduced in the reproducing time are detected to discriminate modes. |
