Title compds. I ≮R,R1 = H, lower alkyl, phenyl, -COOR2 (R2 = H, lower alkyl); A= H, OH≉ useful as antiinflammatory were prepd. by the reaction of compd. II and III(Ar = optionally substituted phenyl group with methyl, methoxy, phenyl). Thus, NaH and p-hydroxyazobenzene soln. were mixed in THF, stirred for 15 min and cooled, in which MEM-chloride added, stirred, washed, extracted and evaporized to give oily p-hydroxyazobenzene-β-methoxyethoxy methyl ether(MEM).
