The invention concerns an electrolyte for use in a zinc halogen battery, which electrolyte contains an additive, which provides for improved zinc-on-zinc recovery. The improved electrolyte mixture involves a use of a lead additive to prevent unwanted film formation and diminish the nodular and dendritic formations on the electrode surface. The lead-containing mixture according to the present invention not only affects the morphology of the base plate zinc, but also the morphology of the zinc-on- zinc regeneration layer. Furthermore, such a lead- containing electrolyte mixture apparently lessens the formation of hydrogen. |
