<p>The mobile contact blade (7) of the relay mechanism esp. a sealed relay, is fixed to the armature (9) and pivots about a central axis (17), making contact with either of two fixed contact pads (5, 6). The central common contact (3) is connected to the mobile blade through a rigid bracket (30) and a flexible U or J-shaped spring (19). A cylindrical or spherical bearing (18) is in contact with a plate (20) at the centre of the underside of the blade. Both the spring (19) and plate (20) can have recesses which guide the movement of the bearing. When the armature moves the cylindrical bearing rolls on the elastic spring and absorbs the relative displacement between the two points of contact without friction or inelastic strain whilst maintaining spring-loaded contact. The contact mechanism has low electrical resistance and is able to withstand surges of overcurrent.</p> |
