This disclosure relates to an apparatus for and a method of baring an electric cable including a plurality of insulated wires covered by a sheath. The apparatus comprises a pair of box-like frames hinged together along one edge to move between open and closed positions and adapted to receive the cable in a position that is generally parallel to the hinge axis, means on said frames for holding them in the closed position. A first pair of clamp members are fixed to one of said frames adjacent its one end thereof, and a second pair of clamp members are slideably supported within the said frames for movement generally parallel to the hinge axis. A pair of cutters are also supported within the frames adjacent the clamp members, and the cutters have cooperating cutting edges for cutting through the sheath. A lever is connected to the pair of frames for moving the second pair of clamp members relative to said frames and to the first pair of clamp members. The method comprises moving an end portion of a sheath utilizing the foregoing apparatus. |
