TREATMENT OF ALKYLATING OR TRANSALKYLATING CATALYST

PURPOSE:To prevent the lowering of catalytic activity, by contacting catalytic aluminum chloride complex used in alkylating reaction of aromatic hydrocarbon with 2-4c olefin with unsubstituted benzene or substituted benzene having an 1-4C alkyl substituent. CONSTITUTION:Catalytic aluminum chloride complex consisting of AlCl3, an aromatic compound and hydrogen halide mainly used in alkylating reaction of aromatic hydrocarbon with 2-4C olefin lowers catalytic activity thereof rapidly when used in said reaction as well as, even if it is allowed to stand at a room temp., the catalytic activity thereof is lowered. In this catalytic aluminum chloride complex is allowed to stand in such a state that it is contacted with unsubstituted benzene or substituted benzene having an 1-4C alkyl substituent or allowed to stand until used after separated from said benzene, the lowering of the catalytic activity thereof is not generated. This method is similarily available to catalytic aluminum chloride complex used in transalkylating reaction.
