A reel for filamentary material has two discs (2 and 3), in the outer circumference of which is fashioned an annular groove (6), into which a split spring ring (10 and 11) is engaged. The spring ring (10, 11) has, in its region projecting radially outwards beyond the disc (2, 3), a rounded cross-sectional profile which continues into the inner end face (5) of the disc (2, 3) by means of a rounding (9) of the inner disc web (8) limiting the annular groove (6) laterally. The spring-ring ends (12 and 13) overlap laterally in the circumferential direction to form an oblique joint (14). The spring ring (10, 11) made of steel protects the discs (2, 3) made of plastic against rapid wear. <IMAGE>
