PURPOSE:To cast sound composite materials having mirror surfaces continuously by maintaining the temp. on the inside wall surfaces in the outlet of a mold at temp. higher than the solidifying point of casting metal, and supplying molten metal for internal chill while penetrating core materials of high m.p. into the mold. CONSTITUTION:Core materials 6 of a material having a m.p. higher than that of casting metal are supplied into a hollow mold 1 by using a guiding pipe 5, and are connected onto a dummy bar 3. Molten metal 8 for internal chill is supplied into the mold 1. A heating element 2 is provided in the mold 1 to maintain the temp. on the inside wall surfaces in the outlet of the mold 1 at temp. higher than the solidifying temp. of the casting metal. The bar 3 is moved downward, and an internally chilled composite material 10 is solidified continuously by controlling the charging temp., the height of the molten metal, the descending speed of the bar 3 and the temp. of the materials 6 properly. According to such method, the composite materials in the shapes of wires, bars, plates, pipes, etc. which contain single or plural core materials, are free from surface defects and have mirror surfaces are cast easily and continuously. |
