In the case of the beam generator system of a cathode ray tube or the like having a main lens (L) and a deflection device (AS), a beam displacement device is provided which acts in front of the main lens (L) in the beam direction and, when the beam (ES) is deflected in one direction by the deflection device (AS), generates (produces) an offset of the beam (ES), striking the main lens (L), with respect to the optical axis (O), said offset always being in the opposite direction. As a result of this measure, when the electron beam (ES) is deflected, a smaller spot diameter is achieved on the screen (BS), that is to say improved sharpness (clarity) at the edge of the screen.
