Apparatus for adding an air-liquid mixture to the air or fuel-air charge for an internal combustion engine comprising a conduit (5) open to atmosphere at one end and connected to the engine intake at the other end such that vacuum in the intake manifold (6) causes an air stream to flow through the conduit (5). An adjustable valve (3) meters a flow of liquid from a reservoir (1) to an outlet in the conduit such that the air flow past the outlet causes the issuing liquid to break up and mix with the air stream. A valve (4) responsive to manifold vacuum is arranged in the conduit (5) to regulate the flow of air-liquid mixture to the engine intake such that the flow is increased with increasing engine load.
