The invention relates to a spiral ratchet screwdriver with a ratchet mechanism comprising one or two twist nuts for right-hand and left-hand motion and axially displaceable on the spindle. The spindle consists of a steel shaft and of an injection-moulded plastic sheath which is firmly fitted on the steel shaft and in which the threads are formed. A high degree of smooth running is achieved with such a spindle at low manufacturing cost, in particular if the twist nuts of the ratchet mechanism are also made of plastic. <IMAGE>
