PURPOSE:To change the range of casting widths without replacing short side mold pieces by disposing the short side mold pieces having tapered inside surfaces freely adjustably between the long side mold pieces provided with small arced inside surfaces. CONSTITUTION:Short side mold pieces 6, 6 having tapered inside surfaces 7 in tight contact with both side surfaces of long side mold pieces 4F, 4L provided with small arced inside surfaces of a small radius having a center on the horizontal extension line at approximate center in the height of a mold 1 are disposed between said long side mold pieces. In this state, the inside surfaces 7 of the pieces 6 have the tapered surfaces that meet the allowances for the breadthwise shrinkage of the casting width. In the case of changing the casting with, the pieces 6, 6 are moved parallel by supporting mechanisms for short sides and in succession, the pieces 6, 6 are tilted to change the tapered inside surfaces 7. As a result, the increase in the clearance between the contact surfaces of the piece 6 and the piece 4F is effectively prevented and the range of the casting width of the small arced mold with respect to the conversion to the low head of continuous casting machines is adjusted to an about 1,000-2,000mm. range. |
