The present invention relates to compounds of formula I (I) (wherein R1 represents a straight-chained or branched alkyl group with 1 to 20 carbon atoms and the acylamino group is in 4- or 6position in the phenyl ring; and R3 represents a straight-chained or branched alkyl group with 3 to 10 carbon atoms, with the proviso that where R1 represents an ethyl group, R3 represents other than a tert.-butyl group) and acid addition salts thereof. The present invention also relates to processes for the preparation of compounds of formula I and their salts and to pharmaceutical compositions containing them. The compounds of formula I and their physiologically acceptable acid addition salts exhibit .beta.-adrenolytic and antihypotensive effects and may be used in the treatment of coronary diseases, cardiac arrhythmia and elevated blood pressure.
