<p>PURPOSE:To purify the titled compound economically, by extracting the crude product obtained by the acid decomposition of 1,3,5-triisopropylbenzyl trihydroperoxide in the presence of a solvent under specific conditions, and carrying out the neutralization, acid precipitation and recrystallization of the product. CONSTITUTION:1,3,5-Triisopropylbenzene trihydroperoxide is decomposed with an acid in the presence of a solvent, and the produced acetone and the solvent are distilled out to obtain crude phloroglucin, which is extracted with an alkaline aqueous solution and an organic solvent selected from ketones and esters separable to the alkaline aqueous solution, at 7.5-12 pH to extract the phloroglucin to the alkaline aqueous solution and the impurities to the organic solvent layer. The former is separated from the latter, precipitated with an acid, and recrystallized to obtain high purity phloroglucin useful as an intermediate of medicine, etc., in high efficiency. The amount of the alkaline aqueous solution is 4- 25pts.wt. per 1pt.wt. of crude phloroglucin, and that of the organic solvent is 0.05-6pts.wt. per 1pt.wt. of the alkaline aqueous solution.</p> |
