Planetary Steering Differential Continuously driven vehicle steering differentials have heretofore been too complex and have undesirably incorporated a second cross shaft for counter-rotating a pair of oppositely located planetary elements. The instant planetary steering differential overcomes these deficiencies by including first, second and third interconnected planetary mechanisms individually having first, second and third planetary elements for rotating a pair of output members in the same direction and at the same speed in response to rotation solely of a first input member and holding a second input member stationary, and for rotating the output members at different speeds in response to rotation of the first and second input members. The first input member is driven by a transmission and is connected to one of the planetary elements of the second and third planetary mechanisms, the second input member is driven by a reversible steering motor and is connected to another of the planetary elements of the second and third planetary mechanism, and one of the planetary element of the first planetary mechanism is held stationery as a reaction.
|
