NEW MATERIAL:N-Hexadecanoyl-2-amino-4-butanolide of formula having the following characteristics: color and appearancen of crystal; white acicular crystal (recrystallized from acetone); molecular weight, 339; melting point, 137-138 deg.C; solubility, soluble in methanol, ethanol, isopropanol, butanol, benzene, toluene, and acetone, hardly soluble in ether and hexane, insoluble in water; etc. USE:Acidamide-type herbicide and pharmaceuticals. PROCESS:The compound of formula is prepared either by the organic chemical method comprising the reaction of palmitic acid with homoserine lactone obtained by the dehydrative cyclization of homoserine or by the biochemical method comprising the extraction of microbial cells of methanol-assimilable microorganisms with an organic solvent. |
